Augmented Reality (AR) set for major growth in the coming years.

Augmented Reality is going to be a huge deal in the coming years. In the simplest of terms, think if it as "Terminator Vision," or the layering of computer generated graphics and information over real-life images - in real-time. Best Buy planning for the Death of the DVD with new Movie Download Service

The way Best Buy sees it, digital distribution is the way of the future--by 2012 the company's predicting it will be a "double digit percentage" of the money generated by home movie-watching. And while that figure covers anywhere from 10% to 99%--which is, shall we say, quite a width--it at least allows Best Buy to be confident in its predictions. [via Fast Company]

Roxanne Shante : The Smartest Rapper Alive?

Roxanne Shante aka The Real Roxanne paved the way for females in Hip Hop years ago with he answer to UTFO's Roxanne Roxanne back in the 80s. At the time she was only 14. But her team was smart enough to ask for a clause in her contract that made Warner Music responsible for her education costs. I guess they thought that a young black girl from the projects would never force them to pay up.

Knock em out the box Shante!

Imogen Heap gets it right : The New Music Biz

I just read a great article about indie artist Imogen Heap. I have never heard of her until tonight. But I am instantly a fan after reading this blog about her genius use of the Internet to engage her fans. I must say that she has nailed it.

In the days where most music can be found for free online, an artist must engage the fans and get them to invest in artist's brand as opposed to obsolete plastic discs. The tools to do this are available online for free and more are being developed every day. It's all about how you use them. Check out the article here [Read More]. Props to Danny Dee @ Digipendent for putting me on to it.

Power to the People : Peter R. Casey gets his credentials

I believe that we are in a unique time in human history. The base of power is shifting from "the few" to "the many," and technology is steam-roller that is leveling the playing field. Social Media sites like Twitter and Facebook are allowing information to flow freely between users. If you can amass a significant amount of followers today, you have just as much power (if not more) than your local news paper had.

Peter R. Casey is an example of that new power. He is an individual fan with more than 50,000 Twitter followers who tweets regularly from St. John's basketball games. He has had such an impact that he was given NCAA press credentials and allowed to sit in the press row at all games. This is a first in NCAA and Twitter history. [Read More] via Mashable.

Woofer : The Anti-Twitter Macroblog

Twitter invented the term Micro-blogging and shook up the world. There is something poetic about having to keep your thoughts to 140 characters. Short & Sweet sums it up. But some people can't leave well-enough alone.

Enter Woofer : The 1400 character Macro-blogging site. It's just like Twitter, but you can use up to 1400 characters. I guess they feel this is a better mousetrap. I think it's kind of ridiculous. There is obviously room for everything on the Internet, but I think this site misses the point. Attention spans are shorter than ever. I think Twitter's 140 character limit set the right tone - less is more.

Check out Woofer. I'm sure the creators just wanted to make some quick waves anyway. [Read More] via Mashable.
